Man charged with shooting SWAT officer and woman during hostage situation in Albany Park

A man was charged with shooting a SWAT officer and a woman during a standoff Monday in Albany Park on the Northwest Side.

Daniel Aguirre, 42, faced several felony charges including attempted murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated battery, aggravated unlawful restraint, aggravated assault of a peace officer and aggravated discharge of a firearm in an occupied building, Chicago police said

He was arrested hours after the incident began Monday morning in the 4600 block of North Springfield Avenue, officials said.

Police responded around 11 a.m. to a call of a female shot in the 4600 block of North Springfield Avenue, interim Chicago police Supt. Fred Waller told reporters Monday afternoon. An internal police report indicated she had been shot in the face.

When SWAT officers tried to enter the home, the suspect fired through a door and struck one of the officers in the lower abdomen, according to Waller.

Aguirre was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
