Man arrested on suspicion of murder in fatal Denver shooting near City Park

A 19-year-old man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of murder after a fatal Sunday shooting near Denver’s City Park.

Dewayne Dietz was identified as a suspect on surveillance footage and arrested on investigation of first-degree murder, second-degree murder and aggravated robbery, the Denver Police Department said in a news release.

Around 12:41 a.m. Sunday, Denver officers responded to reports of a shooting in an alley between the 1400 block of Columbine Street and the 1400 block of Josephine Street, just south of East Colfax Avenue, police said in the release.

The alley is on the northern edge of Denver’s Congress Park neighborhood, near City Park.

When officers arrived, they found a dead man with multiple gunshot wounds, police said. Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a robbery at a nearby business.

The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner will release the victim’s identity at a later date.
