Los Angeles Dodgers Receive Interesting Dalton Rushing Trade Take from MLB Insider

The Los Angeles Dodgers have developed a strong pipeline of MLB-caliber catchers. The most recent Dodgers catcher emerging as a star is Dalton Rushing.

Dalton Rushing is off to an incredible start to 2026, and one where manager Dave Roberts won’t be able to deny him from being in the starting lineup.

Ken Rosenthal recently made an appearance on Foul Territory and dropped a very assuring Dalton Rushing trade take for the 25-year-old catcher.

Per his recent appearance on Foul Territory, Ken Rosenthal had this to say about Rushing’s trade value, and why the Dodgers might not want to move on from him:

“The Dodgers, I’m sure, see this as, well we’re one Will Smith injury away from really needing Dalton Rushing. Why would we trade him when we’re in that position and have Rushing. So, what’s best for Dalton Rushing in terms of his career might not be best for the Dodgers, and I guess at the deadline, sure, anything is possible, but I can’t see the Dodgers entertaining this unless they were getting something huge in return.”

In just 27 at-bats this season, Dalton Rushing has seven home runs and 13 RBI. He’s hitting .444 with 12 hits, 10 runs, and an OPS+ of 384.

It’s impossible to keep that pace, but Rushing has hit home runs in bunches, and that’s a welcome sign to every lineup.

Should the Dodgers Trade Dalton Rushing?

If Dalton Rushing regresses, which feels very plausible, Los Angeles might still want to think about listening to offers on him. Several MLB teams will be looking for a power-hitting catcher, and the Dodgers could turn that reason into acquiring a new pitcher or another player to fill their minimal gaps.

Ken Rosenthal notes that the Dodgers are ‘one Will Smith injury away’ from really needing Rushing, but what if that never comes? Then, Los Angeles might be wasting the opportunity to deal him.

However, in that same breath, having two catchers with power capabilities is a massive advantage.
