Los Angeles Dodgers Predicted to Trade for Marlins’ All-Star Starter

Perhaps the biggest name on the MLB trade block this upcoming summer is Miami Marlins‘ starter, Sandy Alcantara. And to the surprise of nobody, the Los Angeles Dodgers are already starting to be linked to the former NL Cy Young award winner. It will certainly help the Marlins in their trade conversations that Sandy Alcantara is off to a stellar start this season.

In a recent MLB mock trade proposal by SI.com’s Ethen Hutton, the Los Angeles Dodgers acquire Alcantara from the Marlins, but it comes at a fairly steep price.

Dodgers Trade Idea Offloads Andy Pages for Sandy Alcantara

GettyLos Angeles Dodgers outfielder Andy Pages celebrates after hitting a homer during the game as the Dodgers take on the Minnesota Twins at Dodger Stadium Monday, July 21, 2025.

In the proposed trade by Hutton, the Dodgers would have to offload Andy Pages and top prospect Zhyir Hope in exchange for the Marlins two-time All-Star, Alcantara:

“In the proposed deal, the Dodgers mortgage two young players for a seasoned veteran on the mound. Alcantara is dealt to Los Angeles for a package of Andy Pages and Zyhir Hope. Pages is in his third season, and presents a reliable right-handed bat for the Marlins to help balance their offensive lineup. ”

Andy Pages, after putting together a stellar 2025 season, is off to another great start in 2026, but he could be expendable in a massive trade package for another frontline starter for Los Angeles.

In 101 at-bats as the Dodgers primary center fielder, Pages is hitting .337 with five home runs, 25 RBI, and an OPS+ of 164. Another note that Hutton makes in his piece is the fact that a lot of postseason contenders will be in on Alcantara if he’s fully made available, and Los Angeles is one of the few teams that can muster a strong enough package to complete a deal.

Who Says ‘No’ To Proposed Dodgers-Marlins Trade?

You already know that the Los Angeles Dodgers are going to be uber aggressive when it comes to player additions, but Los Angeles already has a pretty loaded starting rotation.

It’s fair to assume that other teams across MLB will need the rotation help around the time of the deadline, and may be able to give the Marlins a little more in terms of a return haul.

Plus, given Andy Pages’ strong numbers over the past two seasons, the president of baseball ops Andrew Friedman may want to hold onto Pages now. He’s one of the lowest-paid players on the Dodgers, but is producing at one of the highest levels right now.

Over 41.1 innings and six starts this season, Sandy Alcantara has a 3.05 ERA with 27 strikeouts. When right, he’s a true innings eater and will be a complement to just about any rotation he joins.

The Alcantara sweepstakes will be fascinating once reports indicate what the Marlins may be looking for in return.
