GettyShohei Ohtani #17 of the Los Angeles Dodgers shatters his bat in the first inning against the Houston Astros at Daikin Park on May 04, 2026 in Houston, Texas.
On Tuesday, Ohtani will take the mound as the team’s pitcher.
However, Dave Roberts revealed that he will be out of the starting lineup as a hitter.
Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register wrote: “#Dodgers Shohei Ohtani will pitch and not hit Tuesday. Dave Roberts said he made the decision during the game Monday. Body language and quality of at-bats from Ohtani during the game convinced him to “take that off his plate” for a day”
Ohtani is currently batting .240 with 30 hits, six home runs, 14 RBI’s and 23 runs in his first 33 games.
He is in his third season playing for the Dodgers.
Jack Harris of The California Post added: “Dave Roberts said pregame he was gonna have Shohei Ohtani DH during his pitching start tomorrow But after tonight’s game, he said they’re gonna change course and just have Ohtani pitch Ohtani had a couple walks tonight, but went hitless again and is 0-for-17 in last 5 games”
