Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions are in offseason mode, as the team tries to bounce back from a season with a 9-8 record that didn’t lead them anywhere close to the playoffs. But, despite the rough reason, there are positives in the Lions’ den, and one is Goff.
Goff may not have the flashy name of a Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson, but his numbers say it all. For the 2025-26 season, Goff started in all 17 games and notched 4,564 passing yards, which was second in NFL and 34 touchdowns, according to NFL research. He also finished with a 68% completion percentage, a 105.5 passer rating and just eight interceptions.
“I think it is nice to finish on a high note,” Goff told reporters after the team’s final game of the season, which was a win over their former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and the Chicago Bears in the Windy City with a 19-16 final tally. “I don’t know if there is a reality of that carrying into April. I hope there is. I think it’s different circumstances than in 2022, when we were kind of on that long run, trying to make the playoffs and just missed it by a game.”
Goff added after the win, “This year, we had higher expectations. So, you come up short. It’s like okay, that win did carry over. And I do hope this win does carry into April and so on and so forth. You don’t know. Time will tell. We got the right guys in the locker room. They are about the right stuff and I think to answer it, it feels good to kind of get back to who we are and see it in live speed, reality, and see it happen.”
Detroit Lions Make Jared Goff Announcement
So, the season has wrapped up, and now, the Detroit Lions have made a Jared Goff announcement. On Monday, January 26, the team shared the news that Goff will appear at the 2026 Pro Bowl Games, replacing Sam Darnold.
“He should have always been there,” one follower said on X. “Goff deserves it! A Pro Bowl nod is great recognition for his consistent play,” another said.
“Darnold gets to prepare and Goff gets the pro bowl. Nice win for both,” one more added, referring to Darnold getting ready for the big game.
Goff is no stranger to the Pro Bowl. This will mark his fifth trip there. Matthew Stafford of the Los Angeles Rams and Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys were the other quarterbacks originally selected for the Pro Bowl from the NFC.
Detroit Lions Make Big Changes
The Lions let go of offensive coordinator John Morton on January 6, after just one season with the franchise. Now, the Detroit Lions are replacing Morton with Arizona Cardinals offensive Drew Petzing as their offensive coordinator, and the reviews on the pick are mixed, to say it nicely.
When Dianna Russini of The Athletic shared the news on X, followers weren’t happy.
The responses to this post were not happy. “Not a single Lions fan or non Lions fans thinks this is a good hire. Convince me otherwise?” one said. “Poverty move,” another added.
“Such a horrible hire lmao, I’m for it,” a Bears fans stated. “Thought the Lions were much smarter than this,” another said.
So, time will tell if Petzing was a good pick, but considering that he’s coming from a franchise that has a long history of a losing record, that’s not a good sign.
