U.S. marshals arrested Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks, on Thursday, according to the Broward County sheriff’s office. He was being held at the main jail and has been charged with murder-for-hire, records show.

Details of the alleged plot were not released.

Earlier this month, the mother of rapper FBG Duck filed a lawsuit that seeks to connect Lil Durk and his slain protege King Von to her son’s gang-related killing in the Gold Coast.

FBG Duck, whose real name is Carlton Weekly, was gunned down by a group of masked men as he waited to enter the Dolce & Gabbana store in August 2020. His girlfriend, Cashae Williams, and another man, Davon Brinson, were also wounded in the attack and named as plaintiffs in the suit.

Piggybacking largely on evidence laid bare at the criminal trial, the lawsuit filed in Cook County court alleges Durk’s record label Only The Family, or OTF, is a criminal enterprise. The label, which included Von as a signee, has held contracts with the media giant Sony and other large labels, which allegedly welcomed artists engaged in criminal activity.

The same day Lil Durk was arrested in Florida, five men from Chicago were arrested and accused of taking part of a murder-for-hire conspiracy to kill rapper Quando Rondo in California over his alleged involvement in the shooting death of King Von.

The five were connected with OTF, a hip-hop collective formed by Lil Durk that produces and sells drill rap from artists primarily from Chicago, according to the indictment. King Von was a high-ranking member of the group.

OTF was formed by Lil Durk in 2010 around the same time the drill rap subgenre originated. The subgenre is characterized by its monotone lyrics that reference gang violence.

A concert Lil Durk performed at United Center Sunday was marked by violence when an 18-year-old Elgin high school senior Jesse Kendall was gunned down and robbed while walking to the show with friends.
