At 41-years-old, Lewis Hamilton remains one of the sport’s most accomplished drivers – holding records for race wins and pole positions. However, his move from Mercedes to Ferrari for the 2025 season and the challenges of adapting to a new car, combined with the physical and mental demands of F1, have naturally led to speculation about his imminent retirement.
While Hamilton has not publicly confirmed any plans to step away from the motorsport, the conversation has intensified as he enters the latter stages of his career. Historically, drivers in their 40s are rare in modern Formula 1 racing, and Hamilton himself has previously spoken about life beyond racing, including his interests in fashion, music, activism, and film. Moreover, his relationship with reality star Kim Kardashian has furthered chatter about the possibility of the seven-time world champion having shifting priorities in his life – perhaps wanting to settle down in the coming years.

Adding another layer to the discussion of Lewis Hamilton’s potential retirement after the 2026 season is his increasingly visible relationship with Kim Kardashian. The pair, who have known each other for years, reportedly began dating in early 2026 and have quickly become one of the most talked-about celebrity couples. They’ve been seen out in public together in Tokyo, at the Super Bowl, and roadside while watching the sunset in Arizona.
One of the most notable moments of visible romance between the couple came during the Coachella music festival in April 2026. Hamilton and Kardashian were spotted getting cozy together during a performance by Justin Bieber, who headlined the festival. Beyond the romance, the two also share interests in fashion and media, both of which are external interests from racing that Hamilton has invested more and more of his time in over recent years. In particular, he was a co-host of the Met Gala as he pursued his interest in fashion, and he has been a producer on film projects including the ‘Formula 1’ movie.
With all of these external obligations and undertakings consuming an increasing amount of Hamilton’s time and energy, his retirement from F1 is appearing to be more of a reality in the near future than in the distant future.
