Trump standingforeign policy on its head

Re: “Trump rootin’ for Putin in war with Ukraine” (Page A7, March 4).

My sons and I returned today from a much-anticipated father-sons trip to Canada to see our beloved San Jose Sharks play in Ottawa and Toronto. At both of the venues, we witnessed 18,000-plus Canadians booing loudly during the playing of our national anthem and singing aloud in deafening fashion during the Canadian anthem, particularly the stanza that includes, “God keep our land glorious and free!”

The USA is now viewed with scorn and incredulity by our closest historical ally. This well-deserved enmity and undisguised rage is the result of the actions of our resident despotic bully, Donald Trump, and his deplorable sycophants.

As a 72-year-old American, I take no solace in knowing that our closest allies are Russia and North Korea, dictatorships led by men who murder their political rivals and whom our vacuous president wishes to emulate. Where is the shame?

Community failedcombatants in stabbing

Re: “Clashing accounts heard in stabbing” (Page A1, March 4).

Since the Santana Row stabbing, which occurred on Feb. 14, I’ve been in disbelief and shock.

The reason why I’ve been in such disbelief is because Santana Row and Valley Fair mall are both areas that I visit weekly. Whenever I visit these areas, I have always seen huge crowds of people and plenty of security and police officers monitoring the area. It shocks me how something so tragic could occur in an area so populated and monitored. It saddens me that a 13-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy would be involved in a situation in which one kills the other.

As a society, we should be educating our young boys to resort to options other than violence. Both of these boys were failed by our community.

Trump tariffs willincrease PG&E bills

I am concerned that PG&E gets some of its natural gas from Canada, and Donald Trump’s targeting of Canada for tariffs is going to have a detrimental effect on our utility costs.

A 10%-25% tariff will substantially affect everyone in PG&E’s territory.

Tariffs prime marketfor short sales

There is a stock market strategy known as “selling short,” in which an investor sells quantities of stock that they don’t even own, hoping that the market price will go down. If the investor is right, they can “cover the short” at a future time by buying the same shares at a lower price. If I sell XYZ shares short while they’re priced at $100, then cover the short by buying the shares at $60, I make $40 per share (minus commissions). The trick is knowing that XYZ shares are going to lose market value.

If I were a liar and a grifter, and I were in a position to declare a series of on-again, off-again tariffs, and I knew that the stock market would react negatively to such news, I could make a killing.

Tell me this isn’t exactly what’s happening.

Zelenskyy shows Trumpthe meaning of honor

Re: “Zelenskyy calls Oval Office spat with Trump ‘regrettable’” (Page A4, March 5).

Volodymyr Zelenskyy sees the spat with Donald Trump as “regrettable,” yet is still willing to work with him toward peace. Here’s a perfect example of a real leader.

“Innacurate” Stafford Trade Rumor Leads To “Big Time Confrontation” At Combine

Instead of ranting and raving, he swallowed his pride for the sake of the people in his country. This is something that Trump could never do — thinking of anyone other than himself. Trump’s not for Americans. His actions are those of a narcissistic dictator. He and his sidekick Elon Musk are money-driven egoists. But Trump, Musk and the GOP are not fully to blame for what’s happening to the honor and integrity of the United States. We, the voters, are to blame.

Is there anyone honorable and brave enough to correct this tragic mistake? God, I hope so. I know I’ll do what I can. Let’s get to work and make America honorable again.

Zelenskyy has plentyof cards in the game

Re: “Trump, Vance berate Zelenskyy” (Page A1, March 1).

Like many Americans I was appalled by the scene in the Oval Office on Feb. 28.

According to President Trump, President Zelenskyy does not have sufficient “cards” in the game. I guess fighting a just war against the Russian aggression and preserving a democracy aren’t enough “cards” in Trump’s view.

Trump is facilitatingRussian aggression

Donald Trump has officially joined the Russian side. In addition to stopping funding to Ukraine, Trump also stopped sharing American intelligence with Ukraine. This actively helps Russia attack Ukraine.

Without the intelligence that helps Ukraine intercept Russian missile attacks, many more Russian missiles will reach Ukraine. On Wednesday night, a Russian missile struck a hotel in central Ukraine. Unfortunately, just before the strike, volunteers from a humanitarian organization from the U.S., U.K. and Ukraine checked in. Luckily, none of them were injured, but four people were killed and more than 30 injured.

This is reprehensible. Trump is facilitating attacks by Russia on a democratic country. Is this Trump letting us see his true status as a Russian asset?
