California State Prison, Solano reported that it is investigating a homicide that took place at the facility Thursday evening.
Darian L. Hernandez, an incarcerated man at California State Prison, Solano, was found dead in his cell, which was also occupied by another person, according to a news release late Thursday afternoon from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
“Another incarcerated person, Jonathan M. Perez, who was housed in the same cell, was removed and placed in restricted housing pending an investigation by the SOL Investigative Services Unit and the Solano County District Attorney’s Office,” the release reads.

Hernandez was found unconscious in his cell shortly after 8 p.m., but emergency personnel declared him dead shortly before 9 p.m.
The office of the Inspector General has been notified and the Solano County Coroner will investigate the official cause of death.
“Hernandez, 25, was received from Monterey County on February 13, 2018, to serve 12 years, and four months for assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury as a part of a street gang act, carrying a loaded firearm in public with a prior felony conviction, and assault with a firearm conspiracy as a part of a street gang act in the commission of serious felony,” the release reads. “He received an additional four-year sentence on May 12, 2021, for an in-prison offense of an assault with a deadly weapon or force likely to inflict great bodily injury.”
Perez, 23, is serving a 15-year sentence for assault with a semiautomatic weapon and the use of a firearm to inflict great bodily injury. He is from Ventura County.
