Whether Bronny James remains with the Los Angeles Lakers at the start of next season is still up for debate as the offseason reaches mid-August.
Movements are starting to cool down around the league, but the Lakers still have business to do to trim their roster to league standards and also add some targets.
James is one name that could potentially make way, but there arenât a lot of options out there to move him. One scenario involves joining his father, LeBron James.Â
In a trade proposal involving the Minnesota Timberwolves as a third team, the Lakers get Donte DiVincenzo and a 2028 second round pick. The Philadelphia 76ers get Bronny while the Minnesota Timberwolves get Jarred Vanderbilt.
A father-son reunion has been speculated as the best bet for Bronny at the moment, and the Lakers, if a good return comes their way, wouldnât mind.

Bronny would be ordinarily entering the 2026-27 season on a guaranteed deal, not significant but guaranteed. At $2.3 million, he would be a good deep rotational piece to have around if only the roster is not over the max number with other positions still left to address.Â
The Sixers, on the other hand, look to have a solid roster already, with the elder James and Jaylen Brown joining a team led by Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe.Â
Adding pieces like Bronny helps to fill out the roster with rotational pieces that wonât disrupt cap space. He would still be playing modest-at-best minutes in either L.A. or in Philadelphia but most likely have more opportunities playing for the franchise that just signed his father.
Bronny would join Vanderbilt as the two pieces the Lakers would be moving in this proposal. The latterâs deal is enough to accommodate DiVincenzo, who might receive a contract extension due to an Achilles injury.

DiVincenzo could come in as an added shooting option for the Lakers. He is not the production kind of guard like Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. What he brings is versatility and defensive cover, which was evident in Minnesota.Â
The Wolves do have the likes of Rudy Gobert and Jaden McDaniels holding most of their defensive line, but there is a reason why DiVincenzo played and started all 82 regular season games. He did pay the price of that workload with an Achilles injury in the playoffs.
DiVincenzo, 29, is a proven playoff star and would be joining the only Kevon Looney as the two stars on the Lakers roster with championship-winning experience. DiVincenzo could be a depth piece given that the Lakers already have Doncic and Reaves in the guard position.Â
DiVincenzo shot 37.9 percent from beyond the arc last season, which was his lowest in four seasons. He is an elite shooter and could provide the spacing needed on the floor around Doncic.
DiVincenzo might miss the entire upcoming season as he rehabs from a ruptured Achilles tendon. The Lakers need pieces that would contribute now because by the time DiVincenzo gets up to speed for the season after, he will be approaching 31.
