With just one month left to go until MLB Spring Training, the top free agent, Kyle Tucker, remains unsigned, and the reports point to the sweepstakes being narrowed down to just three teams: the New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, and Los Angeles Dodgers. No surprise, the three highest spenders in Major League Baseball.
After original reports suggested Kyle Tucker could land a 10+ year contract, things have changed as Tucker’s market has been a slow burn so far this offseason. The Mets, Dodgers, and Blue Jays are the teams that have reportedly met with Tucker and are considered the frontrunners to land the star free agent. A new report suggests the Mets are eyeing a three-year deal with Tucker worth $120-140 million, which would be a shockingly high AAV, but might make more sense right now for the Mets.

MLB Insider Gives Massive Update on Kyle Tucker Sweepstakes
According to The Athletic’s Will Sammon, the Mets are reportedly shooting for a three-year deal with Kyle Tucker in the $120-140 million range. If Tucker lands a three-year deal worth $140 million, that would be an average annual value of nearly $47 million, which would be by far the largest deal handed out this offseason in terms of yearly salary.
But would Kyle Tucker’s camp be okay with not landing a massive seven to ten-year deal worth nearly $400 million? That’s, well, the million-dollar question to this point.
GettyThe Los Angeles Dodgers are still pursuing Kyle Tucker.
Sammon also reports that Tucker’s free agency decision could be made this week. He has been one of the more active MLB reporters this offseason and has been on the mark with all of his reports to this point.

What is Kyle Tucker’s Fit with the Mets?
Kyle Tucker would be a huge splash for the New York Mets, and he would immediately slot in as their primary left fielder. Carson Benge is currently one of the Mets’ outfield options, but Tucker would be a big upgrade in the outfield and would give New York one of the best outfield pairings in baseball with Kyle Tucker in left field and Juan Soto in right.
Perhaps the Mets have been preparing this offseason to land Kyle Tucker. David Stearns has traded two outfield options in Jeff McNeil and Brandon Nimmo, this offseason.
While the Mets continue to be linked to all the high-profile free agents, it’s so important that they don’t whiff on both Kyle Tucker and Cody Bellinger, because they have been continuously linked to both star free agents all offseason.
Tucker hit 22 home runs in 2025, which was a semi-down year for his standards, but his OPS+ of 143 kept him at the top of MLB in terms of offensive production.
He also comes with a handful of accolades, like being a four-time All-Star, 2X Silver Slugger, and having 147 career home runs in 769 total games.
