Klay Thompson-Megan Drama Has a Major Voice Backing Mavericks Star

The Klay Thompson and Megan Thee Stallion breakup took over the internet this past weekend.

Megan went public with cheating accusations on Instagram. The Mavericks star said nothing. And while most of the internet sided with Megan, one major sports voice stepped in with his own take.

Sports personality Stephen A. Smith posted a lengthy video this week, making one thing very clear: he is not defending cheating. He said it himself: “I don’t know what happened in their relationship. Don’t want to know. Ain’t none of my damn business.”

His issue was not with Megan’s feelings. His issue was with the decision to go public. “The public at large did not know this man’s business at all — until Saturday night,” Smith said. “Why? How come you couldn’t just say it didn’t work out?”

Smith did go out of his way to remind people exactly who Klay Thompson is. A four-time NBA champion. A 13-year veteran averaging 40.9% from three-point range for his career. A future Hall of Famer.

“He is not a whatever. He is Klay Thompson. He is the other half of the Splash Brothers,” Smith said pointedly, reacting to a report that had casually referred to Thompson as Megan’s “Dallas Mavericks whatever” boyfriend.

Where Smith Drew the Line

Smith was careful not to make Klay a saint. He acknowledged imperfection exists in everyone and never once said the cheating allegations were false. What he hammered repeatedly was Thompson’s silence and class throughout the situation.

“I’ve never seen him utter a negative word about Megan the Stallion,” Smith said. He even pointed out that Klay had previously defended Megan publicly when an NBA player disrespected her — making her decision to blast him on social media hit even harder.

Smith also noted that WNBA star Lexi Brown got dragged into the drama purely because Megan went public, forcing Brown to issue a denial when she had nothing to do with any of it.

His closing message was that direct private relationships should stay private. “Stop looking for society to police your relationships. That’s your job.” As for Klay, Smith kept it simple: “He’s a great NBA player and a future Hall of Famer. That’s what he is.”

Thompson has yet to respond publicly. For a guy dealing with a tough season on a rebuilding Mavericks roster, the last thing he needed was his personal life becoming the biggest story in sports this week.
