Klay Thompson Makes Honest Statement About Dallas Mavericks Future

On Sunday night, the Dallas Mavericks played their final game of the 2025-26 season when they hosted the Chicago Bulls in Texas.

The Mavs won by a score of 149-128.

Klay Thompson finished with 12 points, one assist and one steal while shooting 4/10 from the field in ten minutes of playing time.

After the game, Thompson was asked if he expects to be with the Mavs next season (h/t Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News).

Thompson: “Hard hitter. I’m not sure… I’m under contract, so I do… I’ve definitely learned my time in Dallas things can change on a dime. I’m just here to have a great time and put my best foot forward.”

Thompson finished the season with averages of 11.7 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists per contest while shooting 39.3% from the field and 38.3% from three-point range in 69 games.

He signed with the Mavs during the summer of 2024 when they still had Luka Doncic (and a healthy Kyrie Irving).

Mavs PR wrote during Sunday’s game: “Klay Thompson knocked down his 200th 3-pointer of the season at the 3:57 mark of the first quarter tonight against Chicago. Thompson has recorded his 11th career season with 200+ 3-pointers. Stephen Curry, 12, is the only player with more.”

The Mavs finished the regular season as the 12th seed in the Western Conference with a 26-56 record.

They went 16-25 in the 41 games they played at home in Dallas.

After reaching the NBA Finals in 2024, the Mavs have now missed the playoffs in each of the previous two years.

Thompson’s NBA Career

Thompson was the 11th pick in the 2011 NBA Draft out of Washington State.

He spent the first 13 years of his career with the Golden State Warriors.

In that span, Thompson made five All-Star Games (and won four titles).

His career averages are 18.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists per contest while shooting 44.8% from the field and 40.9% from three-point range.
