The race to land Cooper Flagg‘s one-of-one Rookie Debut Patch Auto has produced another seven-figure offer, but Ken Goldin isn’t simply offering to buy the card.
Goldin said in a video posted to his company’s social account that he will give whoever pulls the coveted Flagg card a $1.5 million cash advance, then auction the card through Goldin in an attempt to command an even bigger price.
His target is considerably higher.
“We will give whoever pulls the Cooper Flagg debut patch $1.5 million as a cash advance,” Goldin said. “We will then auction it for you, publicize the crap out of it.”
Goldin said his company would try to get the eventual owner $3 million, $4 million or $5 million for the card.
That’s an important distinction from the increasingly lucrative bounties surrounding Flagg’s card: Goldin is pitching the $1.5 million as an advance tied to an eventual auction, rather than presenting it as a flat $1.5 million acquisition price.
Goldin Makes His Pitch to Cooper Flagg Card’s Eventual Owner
Goldin framed the offer around the possibility that a collector could take a guaranteed bounty only to watch the card sell for considerably more afterward.
“You want to take a $1.5 million bounty or $2 million bounty, if the $2 million is legit? Great,” Goldin said. “However, wouldn’t you be pissed off if somebody paid you $1.5 million for that card and they consigned it to Goldin and got $5 million?”
His alternative is essentially a bet on the open market.
The collector gets the immediate liquidity of a seven-figure advance, according to Goldin, while the card still gets exposed to an auction that could establish a much higher market price.
Goldin did not spell out all of the financial terms in the video, including how the advance would ultimately be accounted for against the auction proceeds or what fees would apply. Those details would matter considerably to the collector comparing Goldin’s proposal against a guaranteed purchase offer.
But the broader message was clear: Goldin believes accepting $1.5 million outright could potentially leave significant money on the table.
$5 Million Isn’t a New Number for Flagg’s 1-of-1 Card
Goldin isn’t alone in floating the possibility of an extraordinary price.
Sports Cards Investor founder Geoff Wilson originally estimated that Flagg’s Rookie Debut Patch Auto could fetch approximately $1.5 million. By the time Flagg signed the card at Fanatics Fest in July, Wilson had dramatically increased his projection.
“Now? Five million,” Wilson told ESPN. “It’s definitively his best card.”
The comparison collectors keep coming back to is Pittsburgh Pirates star Paul Skenes.
Skenes’ one-of-one MLB Rookie Debut Patch Autograph sold for $1.11 million after an 11-year-old collector pulled it. Flagg’s version brings the same basic formula into an NBA card market with one of basketball’s biggest young stars.
Flagg’s debut patch card contains the patch from the jersey he wore in his first NBA game. That jersey itself had already generated a $1 million sale before the patch became part of the eventual one-of-one card.
Cooper Flagg Card Chase Is Turning Into a Bidding War
Goldin’s proposal also arrives as the Dallas Mavericks have made their own push for the card.
Dallas offered the eventual owner a package built around two premium lower-level season tickets for 32 years, along with Flagg memorabilia and experiences. The “32” is a nod to Flagg’s jersey number.
Those offers make what happens after the Flagg card is pulled nearly as interesting as the hunt itself.
The collector could take a guaranteed bounty, consider a team-backed package, hold the card or put it on the open market. Goldin is now publicly making the case for the last option — while dangling $1.5 million up front to make waiting for an auction considerably easier.
And Goldin isn’t limiting the offer to Flagg.
“We are also looking for all Topps basketball Rookie Debut Patches,” he said.
For now, though, Flagg is clearly the crown jewel. And before anyone even pulls the card, the fight over what it could be worth has already reached seven figures.
