Justin Rose is no stranger to heartbreak when it comes to the Masters, but it was his wife, Kate Rose, who went viral after hugging Rory McIlroy following his playoff victory over her husband in 2025. Rose joked that the internet referenced his wife as a “mystery woman” who Rory was hugging until Kate’s identity was later revealed.
Kate was happy for the couple’s friend finally winning the green jacket while also being disappointed for Justin’s narrow loss. It marked the second Masters playoff Justin has had during his career.
“There was some article somewhere (saying) like, ‘who’s the mystery woman that was hugging Rory?’ It turned out to be Kate. That was pretty funny,” Justin noted in April 2025, media session, per The Mirror.
“Listen, I think in the moment you realize what it means to everybody involved. You realize what it means to other families, what they must be feeling. You’re a part of the moment.”

Heading into the final round of the 2026 Masters, Justin once again finds himself chasing Rory, but this time he is just three strokes back of the leaders. Given the difficulty of Augusta National, Justin can make up this ground in a matter of minutes depending on how things play out.
Justin admitted that he feels like he is a bit of a crowd favorite during this year’s tournament. This time, Justin is hoping his wife, Kate, is hugging him after finally winning the Masters.
“People have been pulling for me this week. That’s a double-edged sword,” Justin told reporters on April 11. “If you get going with that momentum, it can really, really help. If your game is not quite living up to their hopes for you, it can kind of feel frustrating at times.
“So I’m happy that I’ve been able to play well and feed off it, and I’m very grateful for the support. Yeah, you know, obviously should I kind of get going tomorrow, that would be a lot of fun to play in that environment.”

Kate is a massive proponent of the game of golf. Justin and Kate founded the Rose Ladies Series featuring events for pro women golfers. The couple are also the proud parents of two kids: Leo and Charlotte.
“It kills me to think of kids sitting at home feeling that they don’t have a sport that they can identify with or participate in,” Kate told “This Is Why Golf” during a June 2025, interview. “… It’s a community, right, so golf can be a really lovely supportive community and if you can help just shift someone’s aspect of, okay I might have a disability but actually (I am) not that, I am a golfer.
“I belong to this club. This is my sport, this is how I’m playing. I’m not sitting in my room isolated. That kind of makes me feel very emotional.”
