The Bills secured a thrilling 27-24 victory over the Jaguars in Jacksonville on Sunday, advancing Buffalo to the divisional round of the playoffs.
Buffalo wouldnât have been able to win the game without quarterback Josh Allen donning his Superman cape and leading the Bills to victory.
Allen threw for 273 yards and connected on one touchdown pass while also rushing for 33 yards and scoring two more touchdowns on the ground. The Jaguars struggled to contain him all day, especially in the fourth quarter when he guided the Bills to consecutive touchdown drives after Jacksonville had taken the lead.
It’s no surprise that Allen played exceptionally well, but he achieved something in the victory over the Jaguars that he had never accomplished in his NFL career before. For the first time, Allen secured a win in a road playoff game after struggling with a winless record in his previous four road playoff appearances.
Josh Allen Made Career History Against Jaguars
The first time Allen stepped onto the field for a road playoff game was during the 2019 season, which marked just his second year in the NFL. Unfortunately, the Bills fell short against the Houston Texans.
The next three playoff road games were in Kansas City, where the Bills faced the Chiefs. They lost to the Chiefs twice in the AFC Title game, first in 2020 and again in 2024, and also suffered a defeat in the divisional round in 2021.
With the Chiefs missing the playoffs this season and Allen having secured his first road playoff victory, thereâs a good chance he could rack up one or two more wins on the road this winter.
Bills Might Need to Win Two More Road Games to Reach Super Bowl
Since the Bills didnât clinch the AFC East title, theyâre entering the playoffs as the No. 6 seed. This means theyâll have to hit the road for at least one more game and possibly two, depending on whether the Los Angeles Chargers, who hold the No. 7 seed, can win the next two weeks.
Since the Bills might have to win two more road games to reach the Super Bowl, winning in Jacksonville was a good start for learning how to do it.
The Bills may face a tough challenge if they travel to Denver to take on the Broncos, who boast one of the NFL’s most formidable home-field advantages. For starters, Denver’s high altitude can be quite taxing on players, making it difficult for them to catch their breath. Additionally, the Broncos have a passionate fanbase that creates a challenging atmosphere inside the stadium, further complicating the task of playing there.
Even if the Bills donât win another playoff game this season, they can still carry the momentum from their road victory against the Jaguars into the playoffs down the line.
