Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz responded to Robert Whittaker’s recent callout for an upcoming fight inside the Octagon.
After knocking out Nikita Krylov in his light heavyweight debut at UFC 329, Whittaker said that Blachowicz is a fight that he is open to having next, a battle of former UFC champs, as Whittaker was once the UFC middleweight champion.
Not long after Whittaker made the callout, Blachowicz responded affirmatively, saying that he wants the fight.
Jan Blachowicz Accepts Robert Whittaker’s Callout
Taking to his social media on Thursday, Blachowicz said that he has accepted Whittaker’s proposal for a fight.
“Hey, @robwhittakermma! Letâs turn your words into action,” Blachowicz wrote on X.
This is a fight that makes a ton of sense, as both men are long-time UFC veterans who were once champions at the highest level of the sport.
They are also notable gamers, adding another layer of intrigue to the fight, as you know the two would trash talk each other about their passion for video games before they step into the Octagon, making the lead-up to their fight even more fun for the fans.
Jan Blachowicz Looking to Bounce Back
Blachowicz is coming off a bad knockout loss to rising UFC light heavyweight contender Navajo Stirling at UFC Belgrade. Coincidentally, Whittaker and Stirling are both teammates at City Kickboxing these days, which is another reason to book this LHW matchup.
If the UFC did book Blachowicz vs. Whittaker, Whittaker would likely enter the bout as the betting favorite given he is coming off a successful light heavyweight debut against Krylov. Plus, the fact that Blachowicz is 43 years old and coming off a brutal knockout loss to Stirling is obviously a knock against him.
That being said, even an aged Blachowicz is a significant step up in competition over Krylov, so this wouldn’t be an easy fight by any means for Whittaker.
Both veterans want this fight, so now it’s up to the UFC brass to get the fight booked, as these two legends of the sport are clearly interested in stepping into the Octagon with each other.
