With record high temps making Chicago feel more like summertime, it might be hard to imagine a winter wonderland is on its way.
To set the mood for much colder temps and, gulp, snow, Chicago’s 93.9 LITE FM announced Wednesday that its annual holiday music extravaganza kicks off at 3 p.m. Nov. 1.
Running through Christmas Day, the station — known for its “relaxing Chicago favorites” — will instead broadcast round-the-clock festive tunes and Christmas hits to celebrate the season. Also returning is Mariah Carey’s pre-recorded official welcome to the music pivot.
Station personalities Melissa Forman, “Producer Jim,” Robin Rock, Mick Lee and Edison the Reindeer (the station’s official holiday mascot) will be presenting the two-and-a-half-hour, commercial-free kick-off celebration to the music flip, the official announcement said.
“93.9 LITE FM listeners have spoken year after year — once Halloween ends, they are ready for Christmas music,” said Mick Lee, iHeartMedia Chicago’s 93.9 LITE FM program director/afternoon show host. “We’re thrilled to celebrate our 24th year as Chicago’s Christmas station, spreading cheer, unity and warmth all season long.”
