Kirk Ferentz and the Iowa Hawkeyes came through with a much better season in 2025 than they had the previous year.
When all was said and done last season, the Hawkeyes finished with a 9-4 overall record. In Big Ten play, Iowa was able to muster up a 6-3 record.
Ferentz and company ended their season by making it to the ReliaQuest Bowl. In that game, they were able to defeat Diego Pavia and the Vanderbilt Commodores by a final score of 34-27.
While the step forward was a major positive for the Hawkeyes, they’ll need to keep adding talent to move their way up to being a College Football Playoff contender. Keeping that in mind, Iowa has received some good news about one of its quarterback targets.
Iowa Hawkeyes Receive Good Quarterback Recruiting News
As shared by Chad Simmons of Rivals, the Hawkeyes have made the top eight school list for three-star 2027 quarterback Jamison Roberts.
That’s a good update for Iowa, but Ferentz will need to put in work to secure a commitment from Roberts.
Outside of the Hawkeyes, Simmons named the other eight programs who are battling for the young signal caller. He reported that the Auburn Tigers, Oklahoma Sooners, Duke Blue Devils, Ole Miss Rebels, Northwestern Wildcats, Arkansas Razorbacks, and Kentucky Wildcats are still in contention.
Roberts has a good list of teams competing for his services. It will be interesting to see who he ends up choosing.
Who Is Jamison Roberts?
According to 247 Sports, Roberts hails from Saraland, Alabama. He is currently rated a three-star quarterback prospect in the 2027 class and is ranked No. 21 overall among all quarterbacks. Roberts is also ranked No. 370 in the nation.
Andrew Ivins shared a scouting report of Roberts on 247 Sports. He finished off that scouting report with an exciting outlook for the young quarterback’s future.
“Should be viewed as a modern gamer that can connect on big shots while also being featured heavily in a rushing attack,” Ivins wrote. “Projects as a potential starter at the Power Four level.”
Granted, this wouldn’t be a move to lock in a five-star talent for the Hawkeyes. However, he is highly sought after by some very good programs and would be an excellent addition for Iowa’s 2027 recruiting class.
For now, the Hawkeyes have a fighting chance to earn his commitment.
