The Indiana Hoosiers were able to win a historic national championship in 2025. After making the College Football Playoff in 2024, the Hoosiers took a bigger step in 2025 by going undefeated. Indiana was the first team to go 16-0 since the 1890s.
Fernando Mendoza was a big reason for the sudden success. He was able to win the Heisman Trophy because of his strong play. Fresh off winning a national title, Mendoza is now at the NFL Combine, working out for teams. He is looking for a new job.
Mendoza was talking to the media before doing interviews with teams, and he let everyone know what his new LinkedIn status was after a viral joke went around during the college football season.

Indiana Hoosiers QB Fernando Mendoza Says He is Open to Work
While talking to the media, Mendoza made a reference to that joke, saying he is “open to work.”
“Right now I’m unemployed. I have no job. So this is my job interview right now, and like everyone says, it’s the most important job interview of your life. So right now I’m just trying to do everything to hopefully get employed on April 23.”
Mendoza likely doesn’t have to worry about getting too in-depth with job interviews, as he is likely going to be the number-one overall pick. The Las Vegas Raiders need a franchise quarterback, so Mendoza is likely going to be the guy that they trust.
While Mendoza is at the Combine, he won’t be doing everything at the Combine. He will save his entire workout for IU’s Pro Day. Mendoza’s tape during his time at both Cal and Indiana speaks for itself, but he can have some impressive throws during the Pro Day as well.

Indiana Hoosiers QB Fernando Mendoza is Ready to Impress
Mendoza understands that how well he interviews with teams could decide where he ultimately ends up getting drafted. There is always a chance that a team decides to trade to the top of the draft so that they can draft Mendoza instead.
In every interview he has done over the past year, Mendoza has come off as a very authentic person, as well as very smart. Those two qualities are important to NFL franchises when they are trying to pick a leader. Mendoza has all of the physical talent to succeed, as well.
The Hoosiers will have a tough time replacing Mendoza’s production next year. Josh Hoover, who transferred in from TCU, will have big shoes to fill. It’s never easy to replace a player of Mendoza’s caliber. The schedule is favorable for Hoover, at least.
Indiana was able to help Mendoza develop in a way that he was not able to while he was playing at Cal. Now, an NFL team will need to continue his development so he can become an elite player at the next level.
