How we captured these photos of the Eagles’ Super Bowl win

What makes these photos great?

For the Super Bowl, the NFL gave me a “fixed upper photo” position with no field access. I was in section 639, close to the 50-yard line on the Philadelphia Eagles’ side, in the highest row in the stadium. I’ve never shot a football game from that vantage point before — I could almost touch the dome. But, thanks to a Canon 600mm lens, I could see the whole field.

How did you get these shots?

Photographing this game was totally about adapting to the environment. Shooting with a fixed 600mm F4 on a monopod meant I could see the entire field, but I needed to be able to keep up with the game action. When you’re shooting on the field and at eye level with the players — which is my usual position while shooting the Chicago Bears — you can see the quarterback’s eyes and players’ body language, adding to your ability to be predictive. Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes throw the ball very fast.

Also, while I was in the last row, Eagles fans were in the second-to-last row. I couldn’t see the Eagles’ bench when those fans stood up and raised their hands. I had to think fast and shoot faster.
