It had been rumored for weeks and Homewood-Flossmoor made it official on Tuesday night. Troy McAllister is the Vikings’ new football coach.
McAllister leaves Sandburg to take the job. He was 19-20 in four seasons with Sandburg. That may seem unremarkable, but there were a handful of impressive wins and three state playoff appearances at Sandburg.
McAllister proved to be one of the state’s best coaches in his 11 years at Phillips.
He was 94-28 with Phillips and led the Wildcats to the Class 4A state championship in 2015-16 and the Class 5A state championship in 2017-18. Those are the only state football titles in Public League history.
“We are thrilled to welcome Troy McAllister to the Homewood-Flossmoor family,” H-F Athletic Director Matt Lyke said. “His record of success on the field, coupled with his dedication to education and community engagement, makes him the ideal leader for our football program and an outstanding addition to our teaching staff.”
