Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of gunshots in the 9900 block of Aftonwood Street in Highlands Ranch around 9 p.m. Tuesday, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office on social media.

According to the sheriff’s office, the roommates were “involved in a disturbance” outside of their home and the suspect grabbed a gun. As one of the roommates was driving away from the house, he heard gunshots and saw the suspect standing in the street behind him.

“This senseless act could have easily injured or killed an innocent occupant of a nearby home,” Sheriff Darren Weekly said.

The suspect left the home, but sheriff’s deputies took him into custody later that night on suspicion of criminal attempted homicide, illegal discharge of a weapon and disorderly conduct discharging a weapon.
