High school football rankings Week 5, 2024: Bay Area News Group Top 25

De La Salle survived its first road test of the season, winning at St. Mary’s-Stockton 38-35, to retain its place atop the Bay Area News Group’s football rankings.

Meanwhile, Pittsburg remained second after giving national powerhouse St. John Bosco-Bellflower a competitive game in Southern California.

San Ramon Valley creeped ever-closer to the Top 5 after crushing former Top 10 team McClymonds in the Mackhouse, jumping past an El Cerrito team that routed formerly-ranked Campolindo 49-0.

Even though West Catholic Athletic League teams had a traditional Week 4 bye, both St. Ignatius and Archbishop Mitty rose in the rankings thanks to their strong performances in the first three weeks.

Welcome to the Top 25, Half Moon Bay.

The resurgent Cougars are 4-0 and have a showdown in Pleasanton against 3-1 Foothill from the East Bay Athletic League’s Valley Division.
