Half Moon Bay: Convicted felon arrested on gun possession charges

HALF MOON BAY — A convicted felon was arrested last weekend in Half Moon Bay on suspicion of illegally possessing guns, fireworks and gun parts, authorities said.

Deputies were initially dispatched to the 400 block of Wavecrest Road on March 29 for a welfare check and a child protective services case, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

Two days later, deputies obtained and served search warrants at several locations associated with the convicted felon, identified as a 41-year-old Half Moon Bay man.

Deputies recovered three assault rifles, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, gun parts and accessories, fireworks and an illegal ballistic vest, the sheriff’s office said.

The man was arrested and booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility on charges of felon in possession of firearms, possession of assault weapons, felon in possession of ammunition, felon in possession of a ballistic vest, possession of a firearm without a serial number and possession of fireworks without a permit, according to the sheriff’s office.
