Ground stops ordered at O’Hare and Midway due to thunderstorms

Ground stops were ordered at O’Hare and Midway airports due to thunderstorms early Friday.

The ground stops were put in place around 5 a.m. Friday morning and impacted departures to both airports, according to the FAA. The stops were expected to last until 6:30 a.m.

As of 5:35 a.m., nearly 20 flights at O’Hare have been delayed, according to FlightAware. Nearly 10 delays were reported at Midway.

Showers and thunderstorms were expected to persist into Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
