A grease fire that started Tuesday morning in the kitchen of a Denny’s in Lakewood spread to the restaurant’s attic, fire officials said.

“There is extensive damage to the kitchen and to the attic space above the restaurant,” West Metro Fire Rescue said in a statement on social media Tuesday morning.
West Metro fire crews responded to reports of a fire at the Lakewood Denny’s — located at 565 Union Boulevard — around 6:15 a.m. Tuesday, according to Pulsepoint records.
Workers and customers were inside the Denny’s when the grease fire sparked, but no one was injured, fire officials said.
Photos posted by the fire department show a charred kitchen with sections of the ceiling collapsed in or missing. Chunks of plaster and cement litter the floors and counters.
UPDATE: the fire was an accidental grease fire that started in the kitchen, and then spread to the attic. There is extensive damage to the kitchen and to the attic space above the restaurant.
