Goldberg Insults “Jackass” Triple H For Ruining WWE Retirement

Wrestling legend Bill Goldberg has made it clear that he holds a grudge towards WWE and Triple H about how his retirement match went. WWE booked Goldberg’s final match for the Saturday Night’s Main Event television show against top villain Gunther. The former WCW icon lost the match to put over Gunther as the young star, but WWE cut off his retirement promo due to TV time running out.

Fightful shared that Goldberg was filmed in a fan video burying Triple H and WWE for disrespecting him:

“Yeah, well, what do you think it did for me? Made me really happy too,” he said sarcastically. “It just shows what disrespect they have for me.” Quinn then asked what ‘jackass’ made that call and brought up Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque’s name, and Goldberg said, “Probably. 100 percent (Triple H is a jackass).”

Goldberg shared his comment with a fan meeting him at a live appearance for photos and autographs. A fan went out of his way to reference the WWE match, and Goldberg was happy to give his real unfiltered opinion. The former WCW Champion was clearly unhappy over how the WWE retirement match went after he put a lot of time into training for it.

His Issues With Triple H Go Back Further

Triple H and Goldberg had personal issues with each other long before Triple H became the WWE boss. WWE’s old Tough Enough reality show from the early 2000s featured a candid scene of Triple H cursing out one of the contestants for having a Goldberg poster on his wall.

The comments gave us a memorable moment of Triple H claiming Goldberg lacked heart and passion for professional wrestling. Goldberg had real issues with Triple H in the 2003 program when they faced each other in a dream feud. WWE shockingly had him lose faster than expected to Triple H to harm his overall standing in the company.

Both men clearly disliked each other and held little mutual trust. Triple H worked harder towards making peace with him once the former moved to management to repair the relationship over the past decade. Things seemed much better in recent years until the retirement controversy led to Goldberg losing respect for how WWE treated him.

Is Goldberg Being Fair To Triple H?

Goldberg holds Triple H partially responsible for the embarrassing moment of having his retirement speech with friends and family in the ring with him getting cut off air. However, Saturday Night’s Main Event was aired on NBC with stricter television time limits.

Triple H can’t control how NBC and Peacock treats the broadcast, but he could have worked harder to finish the match earlier. Goldberg has talked about the difficult training process he undergoes to return for a match and put in the work for the final match.

Both sides likely should meet in the middle, with Triple H admitting he could have done a better job booking the timing and Goldberg understanding the television aspect. WWE trying to make the most money off a Goldberg retirement match unfortunately ended with a fractured relationship with the legend.
