The New York Giants are doing a good job of making sure they restock their supply of draft capital heading into Year 1 of the John Harbaugh era.
Giants insider Paul Schwartz reported that when the former Baltimore Ravens head coach first arrived in New York, he asked, “For a bad team, why don’t we have more picks?”
Well, coach, they’re doing their best to accommodate you.
On Saturday, the Giants dealt Pro Bowl defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence to the Cincinnati Bengals, netting the 10th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
But why stop there? New York is missing their own third-round pick in the upcoming draft. It belongs to the Houston Texans thanks to last year’s trade up for hopeful franchise quarterback Jaxson Dart.
Is there a way the Giants could get back a Day 2 pick before or during Thursday night?
Giants Trade Idea Deals Kayvon Thibodeaux
In a trade idea proposed by Fox Sports’ Ralph Vacchiano, the New York Giants could ship edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for a pair of draft picks.
Giants receive: 2026 third-round pick (No. 80), 2027 conditional fifth-round pick
Ravens receive: Kayvon Thibodeaux
While New York would be giving up a talented defensive player, they could add another valuable draft pick while clearing almost $14.75 million in cap space.
“With Brian Burns and Abdul Carter already there for New York, it’s unlikely to re-sign Thibodeaux after this season,” wrote Vacchiano.
“With that, the Giants could be willing to deal him now, especially if they could get a third-round pick, which the Giants don’t currently have.”
It’s not the 69th overall pick, which New York forfeited in the 2025 NFL Draft for Dart, but a third-rounder is a third-rounder nonetheless.
The trade would also clear up a bit of a logjam the Giants have at edge.
Of course, the popular saying is you can never have too many good pass rushers, but when it comes to Big Blue, there are so many other holes on the roster they need to address.
Dealing Thibodeaux would not only open up more playing time for last year’s No. 3 overall pick, Abdul Carter, but also give the Giants a pick they can use on a potential cornerback, offensive lineman, or defensive tackle.
Will the Giants End Up Trading Kayvon Thibodeaux?
In the wake of the Lawrence trade, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the New York Giants were less likely to deal Thibodeaux, despite previous chatter.
“The Giants, who had gotten trade calls centered around edge Kayvon Thibodeaux for the last few months, are now considered less likely to trade him following the blockbuster deal sending Dexter Lawrence to the Bengals, sources say,” Rapoport wrote in a post on X.
“No one is ruling anything out. But unlikely.”
There’s no surefire way to know what the Giants’ plans are with the former Oregon standout, but one thing that is safe to say is that if the price is right, New York will deal.
We saw it with the Lawrence trade. When the Cincinnati Bengals came knocking with the offer of a top-10 pick, there was no way the Giants could say no.
Maybe another team, like the Baltimore Ravens, will be willing to meet the front office’s price for Thibodeaux.
