The search for a new offensive coordinator continues for the New York Giants. Due to a series of conflicting reports, many had already expected that former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken might follow John Harbaugh to New York.
Now it’s certain: the Giants will have to keep looking. According to reports Monken will be the new head coach of the Cleveland Browns.
For the past three seasons, Monken and Harbaugh worked together in Baltimore. He was taking over from Greg Roman, who had left Baltimore to join John’s brother, Jim Harbaugh, as the offensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Chargers.
Cleveland Browns Make a Bold Move

GettyGiants head coach John Harbaugh spent three seasons working alongside Todd Monken.
On Wednesday morning, Cleveland has settled on its new head coach after weeks of searching. Already on January 20, Kelsey Russo from clevelandbrowns.com reported that the Browns completed a second-round interview with Monken for the team’s head coach opening. Since then, there’s been little news about the former Baltimore Ravens’ offensive coordinator.
Much to the dismay of the Giants, Monken’s move to Cleveland was unexpected, as many had assumed he would follow John Harbaugh to New York. Monken, with 11 years of NFL experience, was seen as the top choice.
With him off the table, the Giants must now shift to Plan B. Several names have already surfaced as potential candidates for the offensive coordinator role.
It is clear that the availability of good offensive coordinators is limited, and the pool of top offensive minds keeps shrinking. Joe Brady was just named head coach of the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday. Mike McDaniel has teamed up with Jim Harbaugh in Los Angeles.
New York Has Other Options

GettyGiants have to find a candidate that can help continue quarterback Jaxson Dart’s development.
The Record’s Art Stapleton posted on X (formerly Twitter), “I guess you have to consider Greg Roman as an option, although I’m not sure Harbaugh goes in that direction after Jim just fired him.”
Right after the news of Monken becoming the new head coach spread, he shared the following post:
In his January 28 article on eu.northjersey.com Stapleton wrote that the Giants had requested an interview with Broncos pass game coordinator and QB coach Davis Webb for their OC job.
He added that it’s possible that Harbaugh could be interested in LSU’s Charlie Weis Jr. The son of former Giants and New England Patriots assistant Charlie Weis Sr. already coached Giants quarterback Jackson Dart.
Still, Roman seems to be the most likely option alongside Monken. He is a New Jersey native (Atlantic City) and has worked with both Jim and John Harbaugh.
Finding the right offensive coordinator will be a defining moment for the Giants. This will matter not just for this season but also for the long-term development of the team.
Whoever steps into the role will need to balance innovation with stability, guiding Jaxson Dart while establishing a system that can compete in the increasingly tough NFC East.
With the top candidates already snapped up by other franchises, New York faces a challenging decision. It is also a potentially rewarding one that could shape the trajectory of the franchise for years to come. The coming weeks will be critical as the Giants aim to secure a coach capable of turning potential into results.
