Nearly lost amid the hoopla of John Harbaugh’s introductory press conference were two bits of extremely good news for the New York Giants.
General manager Joe Schoen offered good news pertaining to the injury timelines of wide receiver Malik Nabers and running back Cam Skattebo by saying each is hoping to ramp up in time for training camp under Harbaugh.
Nabers, of course, tore his ACL in the Giants‘ 21-18 win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4. The superstar second-year wideout still finished sixth on the team in receiving yards (271) in 2025 and was tied for third on the team in receiving touchdowns (2).
Skattebo, the fourth-round pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, was a fan favorite for his violent running style and friendship with quarterback Jaxson Dart.
Skattebo also was great for the Giants, posting the fourth-most yards per game and finishing tied for second on the team in rushing TDs (5) with Devin Singletary despite missing the final nine games after dislocating his ankle in Philadelphia.
Cam Skattebo Will Be Prepared For The Offseason Training Program, per Joe Schoen
Skattebo’s injury was devastating to the team and players alike, especially since it came in a frustrating loss to the Eagles and a week after the blew a 19-point fourth-quarter lead to the still-playing Denver Broncos.
Yet, Schoen said the rising second-year back is making good progress from his season-ending ankle dislocation. He said Skattebo will be ready to take part in the team’s next formal workouts in the spring.
“He’ll be fine,” Schoen said. “He’ll be prepared for the offseason program on April 6, he should be good.”
Giants fans, and football fans, who are online may have known that Skattebo was doing better based on his appearance at WWE Monday Night Raw back in November — less than a month after his debilitating injury. Schoen was asked about his reaction to that while addressing reporters Tuesday.
“I was sitting on my couch at home, and I had no idea what was going on, and the agent called me,” Schoen said. “I would rather him not do that, but that’s just who he is.”
Joe Schoen: Malik Nabers Will Be ‘Ready For Training Camp’
That Nabers was injured in the first half of Dart’s first start speaks to the devastation of his injury. The Giants were 0-3 when Nabers blew out his knee, yet that injury truly sank New York’s season — and made for an entertaining IHOP commercial that is currently airing.
But even though Nabers is behind Skattebo in terms of recovery time, the Giants still expect him to be on the field when the games begin to count again.
“Malik is trending to hopefully be ready for training camp,” Schoen said before clarifying that he means the start of training camp.
Nabers, of course, set a Giants franchise record for receptions in his rookie season (109) and qualified for the Pro Bowl in 2024.
Despite missing two games due after sustaining a concussion against the Dallas Cowboys, Nabers also had 1,204 yards that year, the ninth-most single-season total in Giants history.
