Front Range skier dies in crash at Keystone Resort

A skier from the Front Range died after crashing into a padded light pole at Keystone Resort on Tuesday afternoon, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said.

The man was skiing down the Haywood trail at a high speed when he lost control, veered off the trail and hit the light pole, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Ski patrol started life-saving measures before taking him to the Keystone Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Technicians from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, who also serve as deputy coroners, responded to the resort at around 4 p.m.

Investigators have not found evidence of foul play or intoxication. The man was wearing a helmet and was the only person involved in the crash.

The Summit County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s name, cause and manner of death.
