Fremont middle school student arrested; police say he brought gun to campus

FREMONT — A middle-school student was arrested Friday after showing up to school with a gun, police said.

The arrest happened about 9:15 a.m., after officers were called to Centerville Middle School in the 3700 block of Fremont Boulevard, Fremont police said in a statement. Somebody reported that a student had a gun.

Police said school administrators searched the student’s backpack and found it. They emphasized that the student never took out the gun and never made any threatening statements.

Police said the student is suspected of gun-related crimes, and that more charges may be forthcoming. They added that there was no immediate threat to the school, students or community. Schools remained open.
