Franklin Park man indicted in 6 suburban bank robberies

A Franklin Park man has been charged by a federal grand jury in connection with six suburban bank robberies where he allegedly stole more than $50,000 over the past year, according to federal prosecutors.

German Campos Jr., 24, is charged with six counts of bank robbery, each carrying a sentence of up to 20 years in federal prison, and five counts of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, each of which has a mandatory minimum sentence of seven years.

Campos is alleged to have used a handgun to rob U.S. Banks in Schaumburg, Elmhurst and Niles five times since last October — and as recently as Aug. 28 — as well as a Park Ridge BMO Bank on Aug. 9, according to court documents. In total, he took $52,280.

His charges were announced a day before the year anniversary of the first robbery he’s accused of committing.

Campos is set to be arraigned Oct. 24.
