Fort Collins man accused of creating and possessing child sexual-abuse material

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office last month arrested a Fort Collins man for allegedly creating sexual-abuse material involving two children, and possessing thousands of sexual images and videos involving minors.

Deputies arrested Christopher Kyle Shaffar, 40, on Jan. 23, the agency announced Monday.

Shaffar faces charges of manufacturing child sexual-abuse materials, possessing videos and photos of child sexual abuse, unlawful sexual contact and invasion of privacy for sexual gratification. He remains jailed on a $400,000 cash-only bail.

The sheriff’s office said it received a tip in August 2023 from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about an unknown Larimer County resident who possessed images of children being sexually abused.

A search of Shaffar’s home found more than 3,700 images and videos of children ranging from infancy to adolescence, including hundreds of images of two children Shaffar knew.

The sheriff’s office asked anyone with additional information about the case to call investigator Justin Atwood, 970-498-5143, or Crime Stoppers of Larimer County, 970-221-6868.
