Former Elgin cop sentenced to 12 years for possession of child sexual abuse material

A former Elgin police officer was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to accusations of possessing child sexual abuse material, according to the state attorney general’s office.

Jordan Collins, 36, was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to four counts of possession of child sexual abuse material, the attorney general’s office said.

Collins was arrested in December 2023 while on duty after federal and local law enforcement raided his home in the 400 block of First Street in Kirkland, southeast of Rockford, and found evidence of the material, which depicted children under the age of 13, per court documents.

He had been with the Elgin Police Department for five years at the time of his arrest, according to Elgin police.

“Defendants who victimize and prey on children, especially defendants in positions of authority and trust, deserve to be in prison,” DeKalb County State’s Attorney Riley N. Oncken said in a statement.
