Former Bucs Safety Shilo Sanders Insults Female Hall of Fame Reporter

Add this to the growing list of evidence that former Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Shilo Sanders is a terrible person.

Sanders, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer and University of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, made a misogynistic insult against Cleveland Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot after she said the Browns should name Deshaun Watson the starting quarterback over Sanders’ younger brother, Shedeur Sanders.

“I think they should declare Watson QB1 ASAP and let the 1st team offense cook,” Cabot said. “There’s no time to waste.”

“Go make a sandwich, Mary,” Shilo Sanders commented on an Instagram post with Cabot’s quote about Watson.

Shedeur Sanders finished the 2025 season as Cleveland’s starting quarterback, but Watson is back after sitting out the entire season with a torn Achilles tendon.

In 2025, Cabot received the prestigious Bill Nunn Award from the Pro Football Hall of Fame, given annually to a reporter who has made a long and distinguished contribution to pro football through coverage. Cabot has covered the Browns for 36 years and is just the 2nd woman to win the Nunn Award.

Sanders was cut by the Buccaneers in August 2025 after he was ejected for throwing a punch during a preseason game against the Buffalo Bills — a move for which he was eventually fined $5,000.

“One of these folks is already honored in the Pro Football Hall of Fame,” Tampa Bay Times NFL reporter Rick Stroud wrote on his official X account. “The other is Shilo Sanders.”

Sanders Hasn’t Received Another NFL Chance

Shilo Sanders learned a hard lesson about professional football.

No matter what your last name is, if you’re a distraction (and an undrafted free agent), teams don’t put up with headaches.

Sanders was released just 1 day after throwing the punch against the Bills.

Sanders was one of four players released by the Buccaneers along with edge rusher Jose Ramirez, defensive lineman Eric Banks and defensive lineman Dvon J-Thomas.

Sanders was always a long shot to make the roster after a so-so college career that included stops at South Carolina, Jackson State, and Colorado, with his father as his head coach at the last 2 stops.

“Buccaneers informed rookie safety Shilo Sanders today that he is being waived, per his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey, who added, ‘we’re hoping he gets claimed on waivers,’ ” ESPN’s Adam Schefter wrote on his official X account on August 24.

Social Media Reacts to Shilo Sanders Being Cut

For someone who wasn’t drafted and who has never shown he could be much more than a middling talent on a football field, Sanders’ fame seems to rival that of some of the most popular players on the Buccaneers.

Social media reacted accordingly to his release.

“Shilo Sanders…. you’re my guy,” X user GM1 wrote on August 23. “Wtf were you thinking? Easy answer, you weren’t. You have too much stacked against you to be making bonehead decisions like that.

While everyone debates whether or not Shilo Sanders should have been ejected, I’m still trying to figure out the purpose of punching a dude in the head while he’s wearing a helmet,” Greg Vorse wrote on X
