A year removed from the Bears trading him, quarterback Justin Fields is in line for a new starting job. Fields agreed to a two-year, $40 million contract with the Jets on Monday, ESPN reported, and is positioned to be their starter next season. The deal includes $30 million guaranteed.
Interestingly, the Bears’ former quarterback will replace one of their longtime rivals. Fields is taking over for Aaron Rodgers, who has been informed he’ll be released.
The Bears traded Fields, now 26, to the Steelers last March for a sixth-round pick in the upcoming draft. He started the first six games before they replaced him with veteran Russell Wilson.
In 10 games overall, Fields posted a career-best 93.3 passer rating. He had an 82.3 rating over three seasons with the Bears.
Former general manager Ryan Pace traded up to draft Fields No. 11 overall in 2021, then got fired after his rookie season. After two seasons with Fields as the starter, Bears general manager Ryan Poles dealt him to the Steelers and committed to taking Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick.
