Longtime Bears assistant coach and defensive coordinator Sean Desai will join the Bengals in a senior assistant role, NFL Network reported.
Desai, 41, was with the Rams in a similar role last season.
He began his NFL coaching career as a quality control assistant for the Bears from 2013 to ’18, then former coach Matt Nagy promoted him to safeties coach for the 2019 and ’20 seasons.
Desai made history by taking over as defensive coordinator in 2021, becoming the first coach of Indian descent to reach the coordinator level in the NFL.
When the Bears cleaned house after the 2021 season, the Seahawks hired Desai as associate head coach and defensive assistant, then the Eagles picked him as their defensive coordinator in 2023. They fired him after one season, and he landed with the Rams.
He will work under new Bengals defensive coordinator Al Golden, who replaced Lou Anarumo. The Bengals interviewed former Bears coach Matt Eberflus for the job in January, but passed on him in favor of Golden.
