A 17-year-old suspect assaulted a school principal in Santa Rosa on Wednesday, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.Deputies responded at about 9 a.m. to a report of a physical altercation in the area of Roseland Collegiate Prep High School in Larkfield-Wikiup, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Investigators believe that the juvenile suspect entered the school wearing a balaclava covering his face and wandered around the campus. Concerned school staff confronted the suspect and he left the campus.
The school principal followed him down Ursuline Road towards Old Redwood Highway, trying to take a photo of him, the Sheriff’s Office said. The suspect allegedly made a sudden turn and attacked the principal. With a bystander’s help, the principal was able to subdue him until deputies arrived.
The principal sustained minor injuries during the assault, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The juvenile suspect was identified as a former student and was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor charges of battery and battery on a school official. He received medical care for minor injuries at a local hospital and was issued a citation before being released to his mother.
“Due to specific laws regarding juvenile arrestees, the deputies were not able to interview the suspect or inquire about his motive for being on campus,” said the Sheriff’s Office. “The juvenile was not armed with any weapons, and there are no indications that he intended any campus violence.”
