Fish and Flintstones: Sushi pop-up rolls into iconic Hillsborough house

Hillsborough’s eye-catching Flintstone House is getting the luxury dining treatment.

Stone Age Omakase, a sushi pop-up, will open there on July 12, the Chronicle reported, with a private dining room hosting 12 guests at $230 per person.

On the menu: a 15-course tasting menu catered by chef Masa Sasaki, who earned a Michelin star during his time at San Francisco sushi restaurant Maruya. According to social media videos, the experience begins with a tour of the house, a recreation of the ’60s cartoon, “The Flintstones.”

The house, designed in the ’70s, has long been a fantastical fixture on drives down Highway 280. Former media mogul Florence Fang bought the house for $2.8 million in 2017 and added such eclectic decor to the yard, including a herd of dinosaur statues, it led to a lawsuit from the city in 2019.

After the door, guests will head to the unusual dining room — a small, dimly-lit cave adorned with stalactites and a statue of Fred Flintstone. A U-shaped table leaves just enough room for the chef, who prepares dishes featuring uni (sea urchin) and wagyu beef, according to the posts.
