MARIPOSA — A raging wildfire forced evacuation in parts of Mariposa County on the Fourth of July.
The blaze broke out around 6:30 p.m. in the area of French Road and Highway 49 in Mariposa. As of 9:50 p.m., the fire had burned through 400 acres and was 0% contained, according to Cal Fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The following areas are under mandatory evacuation orders:
Hospital Road, from Silver Creek to the End
Grosjean Road
Alta Vista Road
Avoca Vale
Old Highway North, from Highway 140 to Wild Peach
Slaughterhouse Road
Evacuation warnings are also in place for the following areas:
Hospital Road
Smith Road, from Highway 140 to Hospital Road
Parts of Highway 140
Lakeview Road
Officials are asking people to stay out of the fire area. Multiple road closures are in place.
A temporary evacuation point is available at New Life Christian Church, located at 5089 Cole Road in Mariposa.
