Fatal crash on Colorado 93 caused by wrong-way driver, state patrol says

The four-vehicle crash on Colorado 93 that killed one person and hospitalized two others was caused by a wrong-way driver, according to Colorado State Patrol officials.

State Patrol Sgt. Patrick Rice said investigators believe one car swerved over the state highway’s median into oncoming traffic, causing the four-car pileup near Arvada.

Three people were taken to the hospital after the crash last Thursday, where one person later died, state patrol officials said. The wrong-way driver was one of the people hospitalized, according to Rice.

The crash happened south of West 56th Avenue in Jefferson County at about 6:12 a.m. Thursday, temporarily closing the state highway in both directions for the investigation and cleanup.

Rice said charges are pending for the wrong-way driver, who has not been publicly identified, but have not officially been filed. He said investigators are waiting on additional information about the crash but didn’t specify what those details were.
