Traffic was worse than usual Tuesday on North DuSable Lake Shore Drive because of unexpected lane closures related to the ongoing resurfacing project.
One southbound lane was closed from Irving Park to Diversey Parkway and two southbound lanes were closed at LaSalle Drive, the Chicago Department of Transportation said in a news release.
The closures were expected to be in effect all day Tuesday.
The closures came after overnight milling operations found the roadway base was in poorer condition than anticipated, according to the department.
The resurfacing project is expected to finish by mid-October.
Last week, dozens of vehicles were damaged by potholes caused by roadwork on DuSable Lake Shore Drive.
