After spending eight seasons with the New York Mets, longtime infielder Jeff McNeil departed the organization this offseason via trade with the Athletics, and it became clear that the Mets front office wanted to go in a different direction in terms of the team’s clubhouse leadership and veteran presence.
There was a notable incident that transpired in 2025 with Francisco Lindor, where McNeil and Lindor appeared to have gotten into an argument in Philadelphia.
The Mets and Athletics are squaring off in a three-game weekend series, so Mets reporters had the chance to catch up with Jeff McNeil, and of course, ask him about the argument.

Per SNY, Jeff McNeil acknowledged that he and Francisco Lindor did have a little bit of an argument, but that it was “no big deal”.
Mets fans likely thought it was a big deal at the time, given the fact that the team collapsed at the end of the season and missed the playoffs altogether, which was viewed as a big failure, and might be the biggest reason why Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz are no longer in the organization.
â[Lindor] is a great guy and a good person, and I enjoyed my time playing with him,â McNeil said. âI wish him all the best and heâs a great baseball player, one of the best shortstops to ever do it, so best of luck to him in the rest of his career.”
McNeil had been apart of the Mets organization long before Lindor signed a mega contract extension with New York.
Another note from the interviews with SNY was that McNeil noted that he spoke with David Stearns after Brandon Nimmo was traded away for Marcus Semien, and believed he would still be a part of the organization in some capacity after that.

New York is 7-7, and has lost three straight games.
The offense continues to be stagnant, as Juan Soto is still sidelined with a calf injury.
