There are plenty of storylines to watch heading into Saturday’s divisional-round showdown between the sixth-seeded Buffalo Bills and top-seeded Denver Broncos.
But a new one emerged on Friday thanks to Chris Tomasson of the Denver Gazette that likely has Bills fans fuming.
Few would argue that wide receiver is arguably Buffalo’s biggest area of weakness this season. The team even tried to aggressively add a WR before the Nov. 4 trade deadline, to no avail.
Heading into the divisional round, the Bills are shorthanded at the position with Gabe Davis and Tyrell Shavers both suffering ACL injuries in last week’s win over the no. 3 seed Jacksonville Jaguars during the wild-card round.
Add that to Joshua Palmer already being shelved on injured reserve, and the Bills head into this weekend with a wide receiver corps that scares absolutely no one. And to make matters worse, one former receiver who the team could desperately use this weekend, is helping the Bills’ opponent gain the upper hand.

Cut by Buffalo at the end of November, Elijah Moore is now helping his new team, the Broncos, prepare for their playoff clash by giving them intel on how to beat his former team.
“Bills, decimated with WR injuries, could use Elijah Moore now but they waived him Nov. 26,” Thomasson wrote on X. “He’s now on Denver’s practice squad and providing plenty of info. on Bills to #Broncos. “I did all I can in meetings. They asked me questions. Whatever they asked, I gave it to them.”
During his brief stint in Buffalo, Moore was seldom-used.
The 25-year-old wideout, who was a former second-round pick of the New York Jets in 2021, caught just 9 passes on 17 targets for 112 yards in his 9 games with the Bills. He was cut following a 1-catch performance against the Houston Texans, in which he netted -3 yards receiving.
The Bills signed former Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl champion Mecole Hardman roughly a week-and-a-half before cutting ties with Moore. They also added former 1,000-yard receiver Brandin Cooks two days releasing Moore.
Both will play big roles in Saturday’s matchup with Buffalo’s WR room ravaged by injuries. Hardman was elevated from the practice squad on Friday, and Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman are the only other healthy WRs on the roster.
Bills Not Underestimating This Year’s Broncos
Saturday will mark the second straight year the Bills and Broncos will face off in the postseason.
In last year’s matchup, the Bills dominated from whistle to whistle in a 31-7 beatdown.
Josh Allen completed 20 of 26 passes for 272 yards and 2 touchdowns, and he rushed for another 46 yards. Running back James Cook had a big day as well, rushing for 120 yards and a score too.
This time around, though, the Bills know this isn’t the same Broncos team as last year — and quarterback Bo Nix is no longer a rookie.
“Evolution-wise, you see how Nix is more comfortable in their offense,” Bills defensive coordinator Bobby Babich said. “He knows when to use his legs, he knows when to tuck it and go and all that. He’s certainly really dangerous in that manner. But you see a maturation of the offense in general.”
