This offseason, the Cincinnati Bengals underwent a dramatic roster transformation after the team’s defense struggled heavily in 2025.
As a result, a large number of contributors to the team’s defense were allowed to leave in free agency. Meanwhile, Cincinnati brought in Dexter Lawrence, Bryan Cook, Boye Mafe, Jonathan Allen and others to play key roles on their defense in 2026.
Now, one of those members of Cincinnati’s 2025 defense that was allowed to leave has been punished by the NFL.
Former Cincinnati Bengals Player Punished by NFL
ESPN’s Adam Schefter posted on X: “Colts CB Cam Taylor-Britt was suspended one game for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.”
After being drafted in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft and signing a four-year, $5.9 million contract, Taylor-Britt started 40 games for the Bengals over four seasons. He totaled seven interceptions during his Bengals tenure.
However, despite reuniting with his former Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo on the Indianapolis Colts, Taylor-Britt has had a tumultuous offseason.
Once the 2025 season ended, Taylor-Britt reportedly had to spend a few days in jail after he pleaded guilty to reckless driving. The ticket resulted from two incidents Taylor-Britt had this past year.
His first incident occurred on June 18, when he was cited for reckless driving downtown. The second incident occurred on Sunday, September 14, the day of the Bengals’ Week 2 matchup against the Jaguars. On that occasion, Taylor-Britt was cited for street racing near Paycor Stadium. Additionally, the defensive back has been accused of driving with a restricted license and failure to obey roadway signs.
The Bengals cornerback pleaded guilty to the charges of reckless driving and driving without a license. Whether those incidents were the ones that the NFL suspended him for remains to be seen.
Taylor-Britt’s Bengals Tenure and Current Cornerbacks
After starting 17 games for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2024, Taylor-Britt saw a reduced role in 2025. He was able to appear in only eight games during the 2025 NFL season as he suffered a Lisfranc injury. Additionally, Pro Football Focus gave him the lowest grade since his rookie season as he received a 57.6 overall grade, which ranked him 78th out of 114 qualified cornerbacks.
As a result, Taylor-Britt only started two of his eight games last season. Following his departure in free agency, the Cincinnati Bengals addressed the position during the 2026 NFL Draft as they selected cornerback Tacario Davis in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Regarding Davis, NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein wrote prior to the draft: “Davis is more disruptive than productive with size, length and strength to reroute releases from press. He slams catch windows closed when he’s in the neighborhood. While his physical traits make a wideout’s job tougher, their route-running prowess can do the same to Davis. He’s average matching breaks and more complicated routes tend to shake him. His long arms help him defend throws from deep zone and make tackles in the open field. An NFL staff should be able to coax more consistent run support from him. He’ll be tagged as a zone corner, but his eyes and range could earn him free safety consideration.”
