ESPN Host Goes on Rant After ‘Horse Crap’ Garrett Wilson Jets Story

Well, that escalated quickly.

Insider Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports dropped a speculative piece about the New York Jets potentially trading Garrett Wilson around the 2026 NFL draft.

ESPN New York’s Jake Asman went on an epic rant about that report, and he didn’t hold back.

“Let me say this to Charles Robinson and Yahoo Sports: you guys are an absolute disgrace, you are an embarrassment, you embarrassed your family, you brought great shame to your friends — this is pathetic. You don’t write an article speculating about a trade on Garrett Wilson when you wrote in the article that you have no evidence that this is even gonna happen or the Jets have any interest from moving on from him, because they don’t,” Asman stated on “The Jake Asman Show.”

“They have made that clear publicly, they have made that clear to people who cover the team off the record that he is untouchable. If you did an ounce of research, you would know that this is a horse crap story, and this is classic, let’s use the Jets for some clicks. That’s what is happening here. Let’s use the Jets’ name so we can aggregate it out and make a graphic for it, put it out on social media, and people will talk about it because Yahoo Sports is a dying sports company, and they needed to use the Jets to get likes. So I read that one, congrats, I gave you your click, Yahoo, congrats, Charles Robinson, you got your click, but I’m sorry this is an absolute disgrace, and I’m not buying it whatsoever,” Asman added.

Digging Into the Robinson Article

Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports revealed the players who could be on the move before, during, or after the 2026 NFL draft.

“This one is flying a little under the radar given that the Jets do not appear to have interest in moving off Wilson right now. In fact, I think the Jets want to make sure he’s around to be paired with a long-term quarterback of the future — which I think will arrive in the 2027 draft — so that a rookie won’t be saddled with a depleted set of skill position players. That said, I definitely got a sense when I was working on the All-Juice Team and speaking to a lot of front offices that Wilson is going to draw some ‘check-in’ calls before, during, or after the draft from teams that miss out on a preferred wide receiver target. Wilson also fits in the schemes of virtually every team that is eyeing a potential first-round receiver in this draft,” Robinson wrote.

“Again, to be clear: I haven’t heard any indication whatsoever that the Jets are shopping him. But there are a few teams that view Wilson among potential trade inquiries if the draft doesn’t break their way at wideout. And while it seems unlikely the new Jets regime would trade both Sauce Gardner and Wilson after signing them to extensions last offseason, I’d never say it’s impossible,” Robinson explained.

Wilson Isn’t Getting Moved

I spoke with NFL information broker Benjamin Allbright on “Boy Green Daily” after the NFL trade deadline. During that conversation, he revealed that the Jets rejected any and all trade inquiries for Wilson.

NFL Insider Connor Hughes of SNY described Wilson as “untouchable” based on conversations with sources inside the building.

This offseason, the Jets are looking to add more wide receivers, not less.

Wilson is the highest-paid player in Jets franchise history. He is a straw that stirs the drink on offense. The plan is for him to be a key piece of the development of a long-term QB, whether that is in 2026 or in 2027.
