The Indiana Fever‘s top star, Caitlin Clark, is facing the music after a rough way to end their 86-84 overtime loss to the Las Vegas Aces.
Clark first missed two free throws near the end of the fourth quarter, followed by a buzzer-beating three-pointer by the Aces to force overtime. Things got worse with Clark turning the ball over with under 10 seconds left in overtime, resulting in Chelsea Gray hitting the game-winning shot for Las Vegas.
After the game, Clark took accountability for the loss. That didn’t stop people from slamming her for how she closed out the contest.

After the game, “Speakeasy” host Emmanuel Acho took to X to share his thoughts on Clark. Acho criticized Clark for her effort after the final turnover in overtime.
“The issue isn’t with this turnover by Caitlin Clark (though she had 8). The issue is she didn’t get her butt off the ground and SPRINT to get back in the play! Clark could’ve blocked Gray’s shot from behind or made her put the ball on the deck. She didn’t even get back in frame!”
Clark finished the contest with 20 points, 8 assists, and 3 rebounds in the loss. She only made 7-of-20 shots in the game.
While Clark is part of the blame for the loss, there are other factors that led to the game ending the way it did. Nine points in the third quarter are part of it. Clark had hit the court hard when A’ja Wilson forced the turnover, which could have played a role in her not being able to get back on defense.

Clark and the Fever could look back at the game and find multiple moments they want back. They don’t have time to think about it with the situation they are in.
Indiana has now lost two straight games against the top teams in the WNBA. The Fever sit a half-game behind the Atlanta Dream and are tied with the Dallas Wings for fifth place at 19-12. Dallas owns the tiebreaker due to head-to-head.
The Fever are back on the road against the Chicago Sky on Saturday. After that, Indiana has three straight games against playoff contenders.
More than ever now, the Fever need Clark to step up and break the cold streak she has been on. Wins in the next few games should get the confidence back up and running.
